Student Support Services2003 Student Leadership Conference
Photo Gallery The University of Toledo Student Support Services program is pleased to announce its first annual Regional Student Leadership conference. The conference, titled NO LIMITS – PROBABILITY AND POSSIBILITY IN THE PROFESSIONAL WORLD, is geared toward developing student leaders and creating professionals who are sensitive to diversity in a changing world. It will take place Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, 2003 in The University of Toledo Student Union Auditorium.
The primary speaker will be Dr. Joseph Graves, the noted author of The Emperor’s New Clothes: Biological Theories on Race at the Millennium. Dr. Graves is a Professor of Evolutionary Biology at Arizona State University West. With a historic sociological perspective, his scientific inquiry on race and intelligence poses a thoughtful challenge to those who would limit their understanding of intelligence to an explanation by the physical sciences only. As a leadership conference we intend to use his thesis to exchange ideas and strategies to navigate systems such as communication, technology, information, service and education. All Friday and half of Saturday, in addition to our esteemed guest, Student Support Services will provide a series of interactive sessions facilitated by university and community professionals who will engage with students in exploring commonalities and differences among ethnic and racial groups and individuals. Talented and interesting speakers from diverse fields such as politics, education, and the arts will explore and demonstrate how we as groups and individuals are capable of being a successful and productive citizenry because of our commonalities, differences, and individual special qualities. On Saturday, January 25th, SSS will join with the Nineteenth Annual Conference for Aspiring Minority Youth, co-sponsored by TOLEDO EXCEL, The University of Toledo’s Joint Committee, and other concerned civic organizations in welcoming Dr. Graves. Please join us for our conference in a lively and intelligent information exchange with our students.
